Resumé
Hoffman York (HY Connect)/Chicago, Senior Account Executive
March 08 - Current
I’m now working in the Interactive practice (HY Connect) of Hoffman York. That means interactive strategy, project management, and general online consultation for the agency’s clients. A sample? Wahl Clipper, Swingline, Tiki Torches and Yamaha.
Meyers + Partners/Chicago, Account Executive
March 06 - March 08
I directed the marketing services for all the agency’s clients (I’m the only AE), including strategic planning, tactical execution and brand development. Eventually I was told to be in charge of all the interactive, too. Clients spanned a wide spectrum of industries and include Business-to-Business and Business-to-Consumer accounts. I wore a bunch of different hats. It was fun. I like hats.
While I was there, I’ve created brands from scratch (including naming), worked on a bunch of strategic planning documents for all our clients, managed the creative process, written probably 100 briefs, thousands of status reports and all the good stuff that goes along with running the business. Categories include FMCG, Automotive, Managed Security, Manufacturing, IT Infrastructure, Insurance, Contract Manufacturing & Technology, Online Research Products, Convenience Stores, Commerical Roofing, Retail and e-Commerce.
Slack Barshinger/Chicago, Assistant Account Manager
May 05 - March 06
My first real-live agency job. I managed the day-to-day affairs of Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) accounts, and helped out with CareerBuilder and Orbitz for Business. I also helped create the new-business presentation to Constellation NewEnergy, and actually got to stand up and talk at one point. Scary and fun at the same time. We didn't win. My first taste of defeat.
For DMI, work included web management, trade-show setup, e-newsletter development, billing and other day-to-day tasks. It was the agency's biggest account. For DHS, I worked on the Ready Business campaign, including providing support for creative development and trafficking & tracking national media placements with a system I developed from scratch.
Abercrombie & Fitch/Chicago, Recruiter
September 04 - May 05
Worked on the Diversity Recruiting team to hire managers and part-time associates for 20 stores in the Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa area. I also trained managers in recruitment and diversity/inclusion initiatives. Basically A&F gave me a Jeep Wrangler and I drove around to colleges looking for hot people.
The Occidental Agency/Los Angeles, Director
October 02 - May 03
I helped create and run a startup advertising agency targeting the Occidental College student body. I somewhat successfully managed $30,000 budget (of student body funds) and built client relationships and managed over 40 accounts. We developed campaigns utilizing focus group market research and print, web, radio, and direct mail advertisements. Looking back, we had no idea what we were doing. During the same time I was a Layout Editor on the college newspaper and the Layout Editor for our campus political magazine.
