Vimeo Plus

Introducing Vimeo Plus! from Vimeo Staff on Vimeo.

I post a lot of videos on this blog, and when I do, I prefer to use Vimeo. It’s fast, it has a community that is usually pretty supportive (unlike YouTube, which we all know gets pretty vicious), and it does HD. On top of that, the player is pretty spare, with no chrome to get in the way of the experience. I like that.

Yesterday, they launched a paid version of their service called Vimeo Plus. Plus offers improved video quality, more weekly upload space, no banner ads, the ability to embed videos in HD (!), and some more customization, among other awesome upgrades. And it’s only 60 bucks a year. I’ve been recommending Vimeo to clients for some time now, and this only makes that recommendation easier to make. Right on, Vimeo. If I were a company that had videos to show to the world, I’d much rather host them on a site like Vimeo than have to worry about the hosting myself.

Hopefully this will be another success in the Freemium web space (a la Flickr). We’ll see if Twitter follows suit. I hope it does.
