Mobile Isn’t Always Mobile

This comes from a recent article in the Harvard Business Review, and it mirrors a lot of the mobile research we’ve done in the last year, which should significantly change the way we all think about how people use their phones. We hear “mobile” and we think “on-the-go” or at least “outside.” But there’s a ton of time where people are on their phones (duh, right) at work or at home.

Which isn’t to say that there aren’t lots of people using their phones en route to somewhere, while on a bike ride, or inside non-home and non-work venues…just that there’s an opportunity to design for couch- and task-chair-borne mobile activities.

(NB: we had some surveys where 80% of people were inside/near a full-featured desktop/laptop when they were using their phones.)
