Every once in a while, I challenge myself to become fitter, or smarter, or both. I usually log those efforts here.

Please note: these efforts are usually unsuccessful.

Fitness goals!

I’ve just joined a new gym: Equinox. It’s a delight. A unique, wonderful delight. There are beautiful women there—hell, beautiful people in general—and the amenities are amazing. Their showers have big rain-shower-heads and hot water and nice tile and Kiehl’s, and unlike my home, when you get out of the shower you’re not hit with […]

Browser Chrome for Sketching, Visio

I like the internet. You could say we’re friends. Best buds, really. And good friends do nice things for each other. That’s why I like making cool things for the internet.
Here’s the process I follow:
1. Design the framework for an idea
2. Hand that framework to smart creative and development people, watch them make the idea better

Lake Geneva Triathlon Report

On race day, I tend to be a little gratuitous.
I’ve finished my first adult triathlon, at the sprint distance, in Lake Geneva. First of all, it was great: a ton of fun, and it felt good to compete again. I placed 8th in my age/sex division, 34th out of the guys, and 39th overall, with a […]

Shaved Legs

I shaved my legs. Because the wetsuit was pulling on my Sampras- (or bear-) like leg-hair. That pile’o’hair on the ground? Yeah, that came from my legs. Gross. But… I can see why women do this. Pants and sheets now feel awesome.

Oh, well. I felt great yesterday on a run with […]

Open-Water Swimming

Went open-water swimming for the first time in a long time yesterday.
Last time I swam, for real, outside of a pool I was probably around 12 years old, competing in a kids triathlon in Benbow Lake somewhere in Southern Humboldt.
Chicago maintains a “lane line” just off Olive Beach that you can see above, demarcated on one of […]

Diet, Alcohol, and Training

My dogs are tired. It’s been a big couple days for them. Yesterday they ran 5 miles on the street (my ‘round the Sears Tower loop’) and kicked their way through 1/2 a mile in the pool. Today, they powered me through 5.25 with Kevin (former distance runner at Kentucky) and 24 miles on my […]

A night off

Last night I went to Ravinia with some stranger-friends that I met on the train platform last time I was at the venue for Matisyahu. We saw UB40. You know, the “Red, Red Wine” guys.
Quick story: my roommate Eric and I are waiting for the train back downtown, which, of course, is delayed. We noticed two […]
