Finnair is rolling connectivity between Facebook, check-in software, and seatmaps. Gimmicky perhaps on the front end – knowing who you’re traveling with is debatably useful – but for customer service agents it can’t hurt.
This is interesting, not necessarily because of the technology (Virgin, Air France, Lufthansa and KLM have tried similar programs), but because it was developed in partnership with Amadeus IT. Amadeus is one of the seven Global Distribution Systems that manage reservations and bookings across the airline industry, and I imagine that after a period of exclusivity, this will make it simple for many more airlines (e.g. United and American, which work with Amadeus) to roll this out.
