Be Thrifty as F*ck

3 be thrifty as fuck

Big budgets are great. But they can make you lazy, and lead you toward making things more complicated (and thus easier to break/harder to get right in the first place) than they need to be.

So I’m mostly in favor of being a cheapskate when it comes to digital activities. (One way we’re doing this lately is budgeting for goals, not for things.)

There are a few things worth being spendy on, notably avoiding platform/partner debt, and amazing, internal talent.

Principles for Digital Strategy

  1. Victory is Proximity + Speed
  2. Cultures Can Flow
  3. Be Thrifty as F*ck
  4. Build For Yourself
  5. Open a Messy Kitchen
  6. Care
  7. Utility Beats Content

  1. Hell.Yes. In my experience, the more you have, the more you have the lose, and less you are willing to take risks. Clients with the smallest budgets (or that had less on the table/at stake) were always the most hungry.
