So here’s my new design idea for exitcreative. I want to bring the blog and the site into one cohesive design, because it doesn’t really make sense to me to have two different looks. You can click the image above or right here to see it bigger. The font I used is District (it was free, here) and the cool tattoo-looking thing I got from Design Fruit, available for free here.
I’d love it if you could give me some feedback. I’ve never designed a WordPress Theme, and I’m a little afraid of it, but I think I can figure it out. Making it widgets-ready is going to be tough. Just for reference, here’s my old design, which is still up:

Looks dope! You are taking a chance putting your logo/title of the site in the position presented. But I do like it. I would suggest adding more shades of black to the back element (black flower element). Or even change the color to shades of green. Looks a little flat. Good start!
I’m in. I dig it…
I still like the picture, too, though. Maybe a combo pack?
I like the new design, like Panke said some more color in the logo would be tight. I would like to see the title in a different area of the header, maybe to the left and above the logo or over the links? Otherwise I’m a fan- keep it up!
Oh by the way, my business club is taking a trip to Chicago this weekend, got any places you can recommend besides Navy Pier or the Water Tower?
I like the colors! Go for it!
Yeah…tinkering with wordpress can be a challenge, but its so worth it to have a site that doesn’t look like anyones elses. Especially if your portfolio is there too, like mine….
The new design -I like the simplicity. I don’t think blog designs should overpower the content. The other main things to think about are where your RSS button, and search form is going to go….I think these are most important.
Good luck!
In my humble opinion – I rather like it.
So you are now moving into the web design field? Is there no barrier you’re not willing to cross?
I dig it too
Hey, all. Sorry it took so long for me to respond to your comments. I really appreciate all of them, believe me! I’ve just been swamped with stuff this week… But the work I’ve been doing could have a big payout: if we get these new clients signed up (which looks pretty good at this point, knock on wood) we’ll have met like 80% of our growth goal for the year. Huzzah.
Anyway…
Panke (AKA Kevin)… thanks for the critique. I don’t really dig on green that much, but I’ll look at getting some depth into it. And I thought for a while about putting the logotype and the nav on the left, but I figure that most of the people reading it are on 1024×768 (thanks, Google stats), and most are savvy web folks, so it should be OK.
Paul – Glad you dig it. Maybe I’ll use the face on my portfolio page, or have it pop up from time to time in the top area. I think I’ll do it in Flash, save for the navigation.
Max – Sorry I didn’t get back to you with some recommendations. I never know what to say for Chicago except that you should try to walk through as many neighborhoods as possible. As for your feedback, see what I wrote to Kevin above.
Adrian – Thanks for the WP theme primer you sent. BIG help. I’m already making progress! I think cleanliness is the most important thing for me at this point, and I hope to make my theme Widgets-ready so that I can re-arrange the search/sidebar content. Or are you suggesting that I make a site-wide search, up in the top nav? That might be tricky…
Neil – Thanks!
Gavin – Yeah, barriers are bogus! I’m by no means a web designer or a developer (it just takes me too long!) but I figure it makes me a better account person and someday planner if I know what the hell is going on out there, how long and tricky websites are to make, and everything like that. Stay tuned, there’s some copywriting stuff I’ve been working on that I can’t wait to share (once it’s finished!)…
Thanks, all!
