Hi-Fi Blog 1: Big Monster Toys

So here’s my first video. Gonna try to do them on the way to work. This one is about a building that I like to look at on my walk to work: Big Monster Toys, LLC. They’re apparently the remains of Marvin Glass & Associates, a board-game maker that has since dwindled to obscurity. Oh well. They have a sweet front door. Check it out.

Being on video is really weird. I’m normally not very self-conscious but I felt strange doing a little ‘report’ on the street. I had to wait until the passers-by actually passed by, and I still was very uncomfortable. Anyhow, I think it’s a nice contrast to the lo-fi stuff, which I’m glad y’all like.

  1. This is great! Love the video and love the door, well done. Keep up the good work.

  2. Hey Clay, this is great. will you do a video at your office? your desk or your colleague?

  3. Donna,

Does the camera have a “handle” which allows you to take the video without looking like you are holding the camera in front of your face — without that distorted and uncomfortable view that one can get with self portrait digital pictures? We can also see that it is cold outside. I appreciate the address of the door. I am able to find you on the map……….

  4. Thanks, Oakie. I might.

Um, mom, no there isn’t a handle. But I’m glad you liked it?

  5. Nice truck! Did you shoot this with a camcorder or digital camera? I’ve been thinking of adding video to my site too….Good job!

  6. Donna,

I do think it and you are the coolest thing in the world.

  7. CK,

Brav-o. You come across very comfortable on camera. Yes, that door is vid-worthy.

  8. Adrian: this is the camera. It’s from Puredigital, and it was like $100 bucks at Target. At Costco it’s cheaper. It takes about 30 minutes of 640×480 video on non-expandable internal memory. It’s limiting, but the quality is okay, the portability factor is great and it’s just SO cheap.

    My lil' camera

CK: My parents were in TV, so it must be genetic. But I certainly don’t feel comfortable on camera!
