Chicago Coffee Morning 1: Done

ccm1.jpg

Chicago Coffee Morning 1 is complete. And it was a success! We went to the Intelligentsia Coffee at 53 E. Randolph. From L: Kelly, Gabby, Chris and David.

David Armano, Chris Thilk, and Gabby (sorry, didn’t catch your last name) showed up, as expected, but a gentleman by the name of Kelly Komp dropped in unexpectedly, which was great. I was worried at the start that we wouldn’t have enough to talk about (you know, Murphy’s law: put a bunch of talkative bloggers in the same spot and listen to the silence. I imagined that could happen but it didn’t) but Kelly gave us plenty to discuss. He came by to find out about blogging and how to make it work, which kept us going for about 45 minutes. He’s started a design firm called tandemodus and is looking for a better way to present their small, growing company. Check out their site at tandemodus.com; it’s well-done, but Flash-based. It presents their work very well, but there’s no way to get a sense for what exactly their firm is about. As a small, new design firm — I believe he said they had 3 people — a blog is a perfect way for them to get noticed and play bigger than their size. So good luck, Kelly! We’ll be looking for your blog…

We’ll end up doing these every couple weeks. You can check CCM’s permanent home, exitcreative.net/chicagocoffee, for updates on dates and times. I think we’ll keep it to Fridays at 8:00 AM, but check the site for the straight dope. If y’all take pictures at these events, please tag them in Flickr with chicagocoffee, and feel free to add them to the group at flickr.com/groups/chicagocoffee/ Thanks!

May I offer another post?

Thank you all for the great incite to the world of blogging. I can’t say I’m up and running just yet, but making some good ground. I have the content org and design hammered out, just have a number of backend issues to sort out. I don’t come from a web background, so my partner and I are learning each step of the way. I’m really looking forward to getting to the point of populating the site. My fear is that we’re going to come out of the box strong with a ton of writing and content, and then taper off. I guess we’ll take it as it come. First things first.

See you all at the next gathering. -kelly

Stumbled here via Russell’s blog. Sounds like fun. There’s a fair chance I will see you friday.

Nice, Chris. Friday AM at 8:00, we’ll see you there. Kelly, you too! Hope the backend comes along quickly. I know we’re all eager to see what you’ve got.
