Today was a better day than yesterday for traffic. It may be that some people are starting to read my blog. Thanks again, advergirl.
And I have three official links to my site. Even though I’m aware of 5. According to this blog applet, my blog is worth $1,129.08. David Armano’s fantastic Logic + Emotion is worth over $73k…that’s pretty good, right? I thought so.
Buzzmachine? Almost two mil.
I am a tiny fish. But small is the new big, right?

These numbers are highly inflated. They are based on a single purchase of a group of blogs, so this can not be extrapolated to a single blog infitely in time. It’s a cool toy, but the real numbers are probably only the tenth of this figure if you even find a buyer at all.
Ohh, absolutely. I don’t imagine that anyone could be persuaded to “buy” my blog…for any amount of money.
But as you say, it’s a fun measure. I suppose — if this analysis was a little more thorough — this sort of tool would be a good way of proving that blogs have real ‘worth’ to skeptical observers/clients. I wonder what that would take…
Clay, traffic doesn’t matter, readership is what counts. I learned this firsthand when I started The Viral Garden, after having posted previously on just Beyond Madison Avenue. BMA still gets over a thousand visitors MORE a day than TVG, but you have to go back WEEKS to find a post on TVG that doesn’t have a comment, while many on BMA lack comments. Also TVG now has exactly as many Technorati links after less than 4 months, as BMA has after TEN months.
BMA has a large number of visitors every day, while TVG has a large number of READERS every day. That’s the difference.
Focus on readers, trust me that’s the key.

Good points. Starting out, I never realized how interesting/difficult it would be to attract and retain readers, but it’s thrilling (and engaging) when people read and comment. Mack, you obviously know your stuff. I’ll keep focusing on writing good, relevant, frequent posts. I hope you come back often!

[…] I installed Google Analytics. Not sure how well it will work for WordPress (love WordPress, love it!), but it’s worth a shot. And it’s invite only. And I got invited. So there! I know Mack says don’t worry about statistics, worry about readers (and he does know what he’s talking about). So I’ll keep worrying about you if you keep reading. […]
